Policy Statement
MILLI Economic Society is committed to maintaining workplaces that protect people from fire, ignition and health hazards associated with smoking and tobacco/nicotine use. Smoking is prohibited in areas where it is not expressly authorized, and smoking controls shall be applied in accordance with applicable law, client requirements, site rules and risk assessments.
For the purposes of this policy, smoking controls also apply to electronic cigarettes/vaping and similar devices where their use is prohibited by site rules, client requirements or applicable requirements.
3.1 Prohibited Areas and Activities
Smoking or use of electronic smoking/vaping devices is prohibited in offices, vehicles, warehouses, workshops, operational areas, chemical/lubricant storage areas, fuel or flammable-material areas, and other designated no-smoking locations.
Smoking is prohibited wherever an ignition source could create a fire, explosion or other HSE risk.
Smoking is prohibited during tasks for which smoking would interfere with PPE, safe handling of materials, vehicle/equipment operation or other safety controls.
Cigarettes, lighters, matches and other ignition sources shall not be taken into areas where they are prohibited.
3.2 Designated Smoking Areas
Where smoking is permitted, MILLI shall designate the location and identify it with suitable signage and controls.
Designated smoking areas shall be located away from hazardous materials, ignition-sensitive operations and other areas identified through risk assessment.
Smoking waste shall be disposed of safely and shall not be left on the ground or in combustible waste containers.
Client/site-specific smoking restrictions shall take precedence where they are more stringent.
3.3 Responsibilities and Enforcement
All personnel shall comply with posted no-smoking requirements and site instructions.
Supervisors shall correct observed violations and stop the associated activity where it creates an immediate HSE risk.
